Marília Xeno... resigns from SYRIZA, prompting leadership dispute and calls for progressive unity
Marília Xeno... announced her resignation from the SYRIZA‑PS parliamentary group, stating that she cannot imagine a SYRIZA ballot opposing Alexios Tsipras and the ELAS alliance. In her statement she called for “clean solutions and bold breakthroughs” and emphasised the need for a strong progressive‑left pole.
SYRIZA leader Sokratis Famellos responded by defending the party’s continued activity and stressing the importance of a broad progressive convergence, despite “disparaging comments” and “refusal of cooperation” from ELAS. He warned that internal dissent, including accusations that central committee members “denounced” the decision to support Tsipras, threatens party unity. Famellos announced a new Central Committee meeting for 11 July to address the dispute.
Other SYRIZA officials, such as Nikos Pappas, also warned against external influences dictating party policy and urged a collective, disciplined approach ahead of upcoming elections.
