Marilândia do Sul rescues injured owl for specialized care

A wounded sulcata owl (Tyto furcata), commonly known as a rasga-mortalha, was rescued in Marilândia do Sul on Thursday. The bird was discovered with a wing injury at the TGA Agroindustrial Ltda. facilities in the Leão do Norte region, likely sustained during an attempt to fly out of a warehouse.

Local municipal authorities, including the Sanitary Surveillance and the Secretariat of Economic Development, coordinated the rescue with guidance from the Instituto Água e Terra (IAT). Following legal protocols, the IAT issued an authorization for the transport of wildlife to allow the bird to be moved safely to Londrina.

The owl has been transferred to the Wildlife Care Center (CAFS) at the UNIFIL Veterinary Hospital in Londrina for specialized clinical evaluation and veterinary treatment. This species is considered vital for environmental balance due to its role in the natural biological control of rodents in rural and agricultural areas.
