Marilyn Monroe centennial exhibitions launch in Germany

Germany opens two major events to mark what would have been Marilyn Monroe's 100th birthday. In Hamburg, the Metropolis cinema began a summer retrospective on 1 June, screening 30 of Monroe's films—including All About Eve, Monkey Business and The Misfits—and hosting talks and discussions about the actress’s lasting cultural impact.

In Bavaria, the Kunsthalle Kloster Banz opened the special exhibition "Marilyn 100" on 21 June. The show presents 432 previously unpublished LIFE photographs and four hours of audio from Monroe’s final interview in July 1962, alongside new works by pop‑artist James Francis Gill, such as a custom‑made "Marilyn Triptych". Curator Stephan Zipfel described the material as “a deep, very feeling portrait of Marilyn … free from Hollywood’s filter.” The exhibition is part of a worldwide program visiting locations in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, France, Spain, Brazil and Germany, and will run until 9 August 2026.
