Marilyn Monroe centennial marked with Hollywood events
Hollywood commemorated the 100th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's birth on 1 June 2026. At the Chinese Theatre, admirers placed a hundred roses and a cake, and a new exhibition – “Marilyn Monroe: Icon of Hollywood” – opened at the Los Angeles Cinema Museum, featuring film screenings, rare photographs and the pink satin dress from *Some Like It Hot*. An auction titled “100 Years of Marilyn” offered unpublished photos, annotated scripts and personal items such as makeup and jewelry.
The centennial has also prompted worldwide retrospectives on Monroe’s life, career and cultural legacy, with media outlets recounting her rise from a troubled childhood to becoming one of the most iconic figures of 20th‑century cinema.
