Marilyn Monroe Highlighted in Cineaste Cover and TIME’s 100 Women of the Year Retrospective

The film journal Cineaste placed Marilyn Monroe on its latest cover, featuring a colour‑restored photograph of her modelling the Moon of Baroda diamond in 1953. The issue includes an essay by scholar James Naremore that examines Monroe’s acting technique and performance style, using scenes from The Asphalt Jungle as a case study.

Separately, TIME Magazine’s “100 Women of the Year” project honoured Monroe as an “Icon for the Ages.” Although she never appeared on a 1954 TIME cover, the project released a stand‑alone feature in May 2016 that recalls her 1954 career milestones: the success of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How to Marry a Millionaire, the subway‑grate scene from The Seven Year Itch, and her decision to leave 20th Century Fox to start an independent production company. The profile also notes her 1954 performance for more than 100,000 U.S. troops in South Korea, which she later described as her first experience of being respected as a performer.
