Marilyn Monroe's 1949 nude photoshoot for $50

In 1949, before achieving global stardom, Marilyn Monroe accepted a $50 offer from photographer Tom Kelley to pose nude for a commercial calendar. To protect her burgeoning career, she used the pseudonym ‘Mona Monroe’.

Three years later, as Monroe’s fame grew, the photographs resurfaced, causing concern within the conservative Hollywood industry. Rather than denying the images, Monroe acknowledged the truth, explaining she had accepted the job due to financial necessity. She famously defused the potential scandal with a joke, stating, ‘It is not true that I had nothing on. I had the radio on’, a remark that helped transform the incident into a part of her enduring celebrity myth.
