Marina Abramović to debut digital performance series METHOD

Artist Marina Abramović and London-based digital art gallery Taex have announced “METHOD,” a new series of 125 avatar-based performances scheduled for release this autumn. The project translates decades of Abramović’s research and the teachings of the Marina Abramović Institute (MAI) into a digital format.

The collection features avatars performing signature activities associated with her work, such as walking backward while holding a mirror or the repetitive opening and closing of a door. This transition from live, physical endurance to digital engagement aims to evolve the relationship between performance art and the audience, allowing viewers to become active participants through sustained attention.

This digital evolution follows a career defined by physical risk and endurance, including her 2010 performance at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. “METHOD” seeks to transform her time- and body-based practice into a lasting digital form.
