Marina Alta authorities report high pressure on Posidonia seagrass
Authorities in the Marina Alta region have identified significant pressure on protected Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows caused by recreational boating. This sector accounts for 83% of the vessels observed along the coast.
Vicente Martínez Mus, the regional Minister of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory, and Recovery, reported that maritime surveillance efforts are working to mitigate these impacts. Since 2025, authorities have issued warnings to more than 1,700 vessels for illegal anchoring in protected areas. In the current year, over 500 notices have already been issued to prevent damage to the seabed.
