Marina Alta experiences heavy storms and flooding

The Marina Alta region in northern Alicante is experiencing severe weather, characterized by intense storms and heavy rainfall. In Benitatxell, precipitation levels reached 45.9 l/m² within a 24-hour period, with some areas recording nearly 40 l/m² in less than an hour.

In Dénia, the storm caused sudden flooding in urban areas and coastal streets, leading local authorities to close the Camí de la Botoca to traffic as a precaution. Residents also reported significant lightning and thunder activity near the Marineta Cassiana beach.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued yellow alerts for the northern Alicante coast. Following a period of orange alerts, new yellow warnings are in effect for Friday and are scheduled to continue through Saturday, September 19, from 03:00 to 15:00, with potential accumulations of up to 20 mm per hour.
