Marina Alta schools face extreme heat during start of term

High temperatures have disrupted the start of the school year in the Marina Alta region of Spain. At the IES Xebic institute in Ondara, classroom temperatures reached 32.9 degrees Celsius, forcing some students to move their lessons outdoors to the courtyard.

Other local centers, such as IES Chabàs in Dénia, have had to shorten class hours and advance dismissal times due to the heat. While the regional Ministry of Education allocated funds for climate control—including 19,000 euros for IES Xebic and 22,000 euros for IES Chabàs—implementation has faced hurdles.

Challenges include tight deadlines, supply issues, and the summer inactivity period. Additionally, some schools lack the electrical capacity required to run multiple portable air conditioning units simultaneously.
