Two Chinese nationals, 33-year-old Yang Zelong and 25-year-old Han Wenqian, have been charged with conspiracy to counterfeit Singapore currency notes. The incident occurred at the Marina Bay Sands hotel between August 20 and August 24, 2026.

The investigation began in the early hours of August 24 when a casino cashier at Marina Bay Sands noticed a S$100 note with the word ‘COPY’ printed on it. Yang had reportedly requested to deposit S$150,000 into his casino account when the counterfeit note was identified.

Following the alert, police escorted Yang to his hotel room, where officers observed Han leaving the room with a printer. A subsequent search of the room uncovered 121 counterfeit S$100 notes, all bearing the same serial number. Authorities also seized counterfeiting equipment, including bottled ink, paper, and a paper cutter.

The pair face charges under the Penal Code. If convicted, they could face up to 20 years in prison and fines.
