Marina del Pilar Ávila audio leak prompts Morena to seek prison term

Leaked recordings allegedly showing Baja California governor Marina del Pilar Ávila speaking with presumed U.S. agents were released by journalist Héctor de Mauleón. The governor said the calls were a trap set by former Baja California governor Jaime Bonilla, who offered her assistance with a visa, and she claimed the excerpts were taken out of context. She complied with President Claudia Sheinbaum’s order to clarify the situation.

Morena deputy Juan Manuel Molina cited Article 211 of the Federal Penal Code and urged a six‑to‑twelve‑year prison sentence for the alleged disclosure of intercepted communications. Morena national president Ariadna Montiel said the party will not protect anyone, will let the authorities decide whether a crime occurred, and noted that the party’s Commission of Honesty and Justice is monitoring the case.
