Marina di Grosseto launches urgent disinfection after Chikungunya case

Authorities in Marina di Grosseto have launched an urgent disinfection campaign following the report of an imported case of Chikungunya. The infected individual frequented the central area of the locality, specifically within the perimeter bounded by Lungomare Leopoldo II di Lorena, Via Piave, Via Firenze, and Via Grossetana. The treatment area also extends to the port and the covered parking lot adjacent to Via Grossetana.

While the case is classified as imported and there is currently no evidence of local transmission, the municipality is taking precautions to eliminate standing water where Aedes mosquito larvae, including the tiger mosquito, can develop. Disinfection efforts will include public streets as well as the external spaces of private properties, such as courtyards, gardens, and terraces.

Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted by mosquito bites. Symptoms typically include sudden fever, severe joint pain, muscle aches, headaches, and skin rashes.
