Marina di Pisa commemorates Foibe massacre victims
In Marina di Pisa, a ceremony was held at the Foibe Martyrs Monument to commemorate Norma Cossetto and the victims of the Foibe massacres. Cossetto, a student from Istria who was killed in October 1943, has become a symbol of the thousands of Italians from Istria, Fiume, and Dalmatia who suffered death or exile.
Clelia Kolman, president of the Pisa section of the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmazia, led the tribute by laying flowers at the monument located in via Milazzo. The memorial was placed in the area known as the Villaggio Profughi, marking the site where Istrian, Fiuman, and Dalmatian exiles integrated into the local community during the 1950s.
The event was attended by local officials, including Councilor Virginia Mancini and Councilor Stefano Barsantini, as well as representatives from the Pro Loco Litorale Pisano. The ceremony aimed to preserve the historical memory of the eastern border tragedies for future generations.
