Marina di Ragusa launches anti‑litter campaign targeting cigarette butts
The Pro Loco Mazzarelli association organized the “Se sporchi, non vali una cicca” campaign in Marina di Ragusa on July 12 at 10:30 in Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi. The initiative aims to raise awareness about proper disposal of cigarette filters, which can take up to ten years to break down and contribute to beach, sea and public‑space pollution. Volunteers will set up an information gazebo, distribute free pocket ash‑tray holders and leaflets, and promote responsible behaviour among residents, tourists and local operators. “A discarded cigarette may seem insignificant, but it is one of the most widespread and harmful forms of litter,” said Pro Loco president Antonio Carnemolla, emphasizing the need for everyday civic responsibility to protect the town’s coastal environment.
