Marina Marx faces financial crisis over COVID-19 aid repayments
German Schlager singer Marina Marx has expressed deep concern for her livelihood after being ordered to repay approximately 13,000 euros in COVID-19 bridging aid (Überbrückungshilfe) received during the pandemic lockdowns.
In a video shared on Instagram, the 36-year-old artist stated that 6,200 euros are due immediately, while authorities have yet to reach a decision regarding the remaining 6,800 euros. Marx described the situation as "existential threat" and called for authorities to conduct fair, individual assessments of such cases, noting that blanket rules may not account for the specific circumstances of solo self-employed individuals.
Other artists, including Daniel Schuhmacher and Annemarie Eilfeld, have publicly responded to her appeal, sharing that they have faced or are currently facing similar repayment demands. Marx emphasized that she is not seeking special treatment but wants to highlight the burden these repayments place on many in the creative sector.
