Marine animals rescued in Sisal and La Paz
A pygmy orca (Feresa attenuata) was found injured on the shores of Sisal, Mexico. The animal, which sustained a lesion on its right fin, was discovered near the pier by biologist Lizeth Victoria Cob Hernández. To protect the mammal from sun exposure, specialists covered it with a sheet while coordinating medical assistance. Dr. Raúl Díaz Gamboa from the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY) is organizing a team to transfer the orca to a field station in Dzilam de Bravo for specialized care.
In a separate incident in La Paz, Baja California Sur, a sea lion was located near the fiscal pier on the boardwalk. The animal was found by security personnel and municipal officers in an area undergoing construction. Officials from the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) attended the scene, and the sea lion was placed in a transport cage. It is being moved to a rescue center in Pichilingue to undergo medical examinations and research testing.
