Marine Corps Marathon causes transit and traffic changes

The 51st Marine Corps Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, October 25, will result in significant changes to public transportation and road access in the District of Columbia.

Metrorail will open two hours early on Sunday, with stations opening at 5:00 a.m. to accommodate runners and spectators. Increased train frequencies will be implemented on the Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, Orange, and Silver lines throughout the weekend. Metrobus service to and from the Pentagon will be diverted to Pentagon City from 2:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday due to road closures.

Motorists should expect various street closures and emergency no-parking zones. Major closures will affect 3rd Street, 7th Street, 14th Street, M Street, Canal Road, Wisconsin Avenue, K Street, Madison Drive, Jefferson Drive, and Independence Avenue. Additionally, Rock Creek Parkway and the HOV lanes of the 14th Street Bridge will experience closures. Parking restrictions will be in effect from 2:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on affected streets.
