Marine enforcement agencies conduct joint operation near Port McNeill

During the Sointula Island Salmon Days fishing derby, multiple agencies conducted a coordinated marine enforcement operation in the waters surrounding Port McNeill and Malcolm Island.

The operation involved the Port McNeill RCMP, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), and the B. C. Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS). Using both DFO and RCMP vessels, officers patrolled the area to ensure compliance with fishing regulations, boating safety requirements, and federal and provincial legislation.

Officers issued several violation tickets and enforcement actions. Cited infractions included expired flares, expired licenses, operating pleasure crafts without a copy of a license on board, missing vessel markings, and failure to carry required equipment such as oars or flashlights.
