Minister of State Timmy Dooley has announced the appointment of Marie Gleeson and Dervla Tierney to the Board of the Marine Institute. The appointments follow an open State Boards recruitment process and will serve a five-year term. Gleeson, a former Senior Officer in the Irish Naval Service, brings expertise in maritime operations and leadership, while Tierney, a Chartered Accountant, provides experience in finance and corporate governance.
In a related development for the maritime sector, the Marine Institute, University of Galway, and Atlantic Technological University have unveiled the programme for the Atlantic Summit Galway 2026. Scheduled for October 8-9, 2026, the summit will serve as an Associated Event of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The event aims to convene ocean strategists, researchers, and policymakers to address Atlantic research, innovation, and the sustainable development of the blue economy.
