Marine Le Pen delays planned NATO command withdrawal

Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Rally and a leading candidate for the French presidency, has adjusted her stance regarding France's involvement in NATO. While she maintains her intention to withdraw France from NATO's integrated command, she stated that such a move would not be taken as long as the war in Ukraine continues.

Le Pen described the current situation as having a war ‘at Europe's doorstep,’ suggesting it is not the appropriate time for such measures, though she reiterated that her ultimate goal remains unchanged. Additionally, she expressed opposition to continuing financial assistance to Ukraine, stating that France can no longer provide such aid.

Her position has raised concerns within NATO regarding the future of French defense policy. Le Pen has also dismissed President Emmanuel Macron's initiatives regarding nuclear deterrence, characterizing them as ‘vague’ and primarily a ‘public relations move.’
