Marine Le Pen proposes national priority for French social housing

Marine Le Pen, leader of the Rassemblement National, has introduced a housing-focused platform during a speech in Hénin-Beaumont. Central to her proposal is the principle of ‘national priority,’ which she describes as a ‘natural and just right.’ She intends to reserve social housing and personal housing assistance (APL) exclusively for French citizens.

Le Pen’s plan includes several legislative and economic measures: abolishing the SRU law regarding social housing quotas, allowing the sale of certain public housing units to French citizens, and evicting families involved in criminal activity from social housing. To stimulate construction, she proposes providing public land to builders for free in exchange for creating affordable apartments.

Additionally, she aims to eliminate the ‘zero net artificialization’ rule, which she calls an ‘ideological norm,’ and intends to replace the ‘MaPrimeRénov’ subsidy with a ‘100% rénov’ program based on zero-interest loans. She also proposed lowering the VAT from 25 percent to 20 percent to address the cost-of-living crisis.
