Marine Le Pen proposes EU budget cap and end to Ukraine aid

Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Rally, has detailed a platform that would significantly alter France's relationship with the European Union and its foreign policy. Speaking in Brussels, she proposed capping France's net contribution to the EU budget at 5 billion euros annually, a reduction from the current level of approximately 8 billion euros. She also called for a delay in finalizing the EU's long-term budget (2028–2034) until after the upcoming elections in France, Italy, Poland, and Spain, labeling any earlier agreement a “democratic scandal.”

Regarding international affairs, Le Pen pledged to end French financial aid to Ukraine within six months of taking office, citing France's severe budgetary constraints and high public debt. She expressed opposition to Ukraine's potential accession to the EU and criticized current EU sanctions against Russia, describing the energy conflict as unwise.

Domestically, Le Pen intends to lower the legal retirement age to 62. Additionally, recent polling by IFOP indicates significant social tension, with 46% of French Muslims stating they would consider emigrating if she wins the presidency. Le Pen remains a leading candidate for the 2027 presidential election according to recent surveys.
