Marine Tondelier responds to graphic Charlie Hebdo caricature

French politician Marine Tondelier has publicly responded to a graphic caricature published by the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. The drawing, created by the artist Félix, depicts Tondelier in a nude state during the childbirth of her second child, Léon.

The caricature includes the caption “La châtaigne est sortie de sa bogue” (The chestnut has come out of its shell), a play on the politician's nickname. Tondelier addressed the publication on social media, stating that while being a politician involves being exposed to such imagery, she did not find the drawing humorous. She remarked, “This drawing evokes many words, but ‘funny’ does not really come to mind.”

While Tondelier expressed her disapproval, she noted that she respects the journal's freedom of expression. Several political figures have since voiced their support for Tondelier following the publication.
