Marine Tondelier supports civil disobedience against potential RN victory

Marine Tondelier, national secretary of the EELV (Ecologists), has expressed support for civil disobedience in the event of a Rassemblement National (RN) victory in the 2027 presidential election. During an interview on LCI, Tondelier stated that an RN victory would not be “an alternation like the others,” suggesting that the country would enter a different world.

Tondelier indicated that while she expects few acts of disobedience, she believes she knows how to act and knows who is capable of doing so. She referenced the 2014 RN victory in Hénin-Beaumont to note that previous hopes for civil servant revolts did not materialize, and criticized what she termed the “silence of the slippers” regarding the party's rising poll numbers.

The discussion follows previous instances of political tension, such as a 2024 petition by National Education officials who threatened to refuse certain measures from a potential RN government. While Tondelier frames disobedience as a duty in certain contexts, legal standards in the French civil service generally mandate hierarchical obedience, noting that political disagreement alone is typically insufficient to justify refusing directives.
