Marine wildlife incidents reported in Jamaica and Washington

In Jamaica, the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) has issued a warning to the public to avoid the Salt Marsh area in Trelawny. The advisory follows the arrival of a whale carcass on Friday, which has attracted sharks to the shoreline. NEPA noted that the reddish discoloration in the water is likely due to blood and tissue from feeding and is not necessarily a sign of pollution. Authorities have urged residents to keep children and pets away from the water and to refrain from approaching the carcass or the sharks.

Separately, in the United States, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is seeking information regarding the decapitation of a deceased thresher shark found at Ocean Shores. Officials stated that the removal of the shark's head is illegal, as it prevents researchers from collecting vital biological data, determining the cause of death, or studying whether the animal died from disease or accidental fishing bycatch.
