Maringá, Brazil and Castelo de Paiva, Portugal start youth eco projects
The municipality of Maringá in Brazil launched the “Cola Aí, Juventude: Geração Sustentável” project on July 26 at Parque do Ingá. Organized by the city’s Youth, Citizenship and Migrants Secretariat and the local environmental institute, the program offered guided nature trails, environmental quizzes, educational games, scientific exhibits and waste‑sorting guidance to children, teenagers and families. Mayor Silvio Barros and Youth Secretariat director Sandra Franchini highlighted the aim of strengthening youth involvement in sustainable solutions.
In Castelo de Paiva, Portugal, the city council introduced the “Voluntariado Jovem para a Natureza e Florestas” programme, running from July 28 to September 21 2026. The initiative engages local young volunteers in forest monitoring and protection, providing training, a work kit and a participation certificate. Councilor Rui Gomes and civil‑protection coordinator Fábio Moreira attended the opening ceremony, stressing the importance of youth participation in preserving natural heritage.
