Maringá approves new municipal literacy policy

The city of Maringá has approved a Municipal Literacy Policy to establish new guidelines for reading, writing, and mathematical literacy within its municipal school system. The legislation creates a permanent structure for planning, monitoring student learning, and professional training for educators.

Key initiatives integrated into the policy include the ‘Projeto Leitura em Movimento’, which tracks reading fluency and pedagogical performance, and the ‘Compromisso Maringá: Criança Leitora’. The latter includes daily 20-minute reading sessions, the use of the ‘Alfabetômetro’ to track student progress, and continuous teacher training. The policy is now part of the Municipal Education Plan to ensure long-term continuity in educational strategies.
