Maringá authorities address illegal waste accumulation on private lots

In Maringá, residents are expressing growing concern over illegal waste accumulation on private lots. In the Parque Tuiuti neighborhood, a property on Rua Rio das Várzeas has become a site for discarded furniture and various residues. The Maringá City Hall reported that it has already issued R$ 110,000 in fines to the property owner due to these irregularities and has since cleaned the site.

Further complaints have emerged from Jardim Ipanema, where residents claim a lot has been accumulating trash since 2020. This specific location is situated near a daycare center and a municipal hospital, raising public health concerns. The area reportedly contains discarded clothing, food waste, and broken furniture, alongside damaged fencing and precarious sidewalks.

To address these issues, the municipality is finalizing a proposed law that would allow for the seizure of abandoned properties by the city, provided that owners are notified and given the right to a legal defense. The city continues to encourage citizens to report illegal dumping via official channels.
