Maringá physician killed in suspected femicide

A forensic report has detailed the death of 37-year-old physician Gassi Paola de Souza Mazia, who was found dead in her apartment in Maringá, Paraná. The autopsy concluded that the victim died from acute hemorrhage caused by 14 stab wounds and also suffered strangulation.

The Civil Police are investigating the case as a femicide. The primary suspect is 25-year-old João Vitor Domingues Romeiro, the victim's partner, who reportedly could not accept the end of their relationship. Following a dispute on September 5, the suspect allegedly attacked the physician with a knife.

The couple's eight-month-old son was found alone in the apartment near his mother's body after neighbors and relatives raised alarms. The suspect fled to Mandaguari, where he was located with injuries to his neck and reportedly confessed to the crime to a family member. He has been arrested and was previously an administrative legal advisor for the Marialva City Hall.
