Maringá rolls out pedestrian safety blitzes and real‑time bus tracking app

The municipality of Maringá, Brazil, launched a week‑long traffic‑safety education campaign on July 8, 2026. Called “Parar na faixa de pedestres é coisa nossa,” the blitzes, organized by the city’s Secretariat of Urban Mobility (Semob), aim to remind drivers to give priority to pedestrians at crosswalks. Secretary of Urban Mobility Luciano Brito and traffic‑education manager Diogo Scamparini highlighted the importance of driver attention and pedestrian responsibility, distributing flyers and quizzes at a central intersection.

On July 9, 2026, the same Secretariat introduced the free “Na Hora Maringá” mobile application for Android and iOS users. The app provides real‑time GPS tracking of city buses, route planning, and up‑to‑date timetables, allowing passengers to reduce waiting times. Secretary Brito and Vice‑Mayor Sandra Jacovós presented the tool as part of a broader effort to improve mobility, predictability and quality of life for residents.

Both initiatives reflect Maringá’s push to combine education and technology to enhance road safety and public‑transport efficiency for its citizens.
