Marinha Grande strengthens emergency response after Storm Kristin

Following the impact of Storm Kristin, the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Marinha Grande has established a strategic reserve of 22 generators to ensure emergency preparedness. The current inventory includes 18 light generators and four medium generators, sourced through donations and purchases.

Local authorities are currently processing the acquisition of additional high-capacity generators to guarantee minimum water supply conditions during emergencies. To improve damage assessment and search operations, the service has also acquired a thermal camera drone, which has already been utilized in search and rescue efforts and firefighting.

In the Bidoeira region, residents report that infrastructure recovery remains incomplete nine months after the storm. Issues include damaged electrical poles, broken street lighting, and intermittent internet connectivity. While the government has provided Starlink equipment and radios to the Bidoeira parish council, residents continue to face challenges regarding electrical stability and communication reliability.
