Central European infrastructure projects expand across Czech Republic and Slovakia

Various infrastructure projects are underway across the Czech Republic and Slovakia, focusing on highway expansions, bridge repairs, and road modernizations.

In the Czech Republic, the Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) has awarded a 2.312 billion CZK contract for the D6 highway construction between Žalmanov and Olšová Vrata. Additionally, a major three-year modernization of the I/53 road near Znojmo is beginning to improve safety and capacity near the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant. Other regional projects include the I/43 bypass near Černá Hora and various local road and bridge repairs in the Vysočina and Liberec regions.

In Slovakia, the D1 highway section between Hubová and Ivachnová, including the Čebrať tunnel, is scheduled to open on October 5, 2026, following 13 years of construction. This project aims to bypass Ružomberok and reduce travel times. Furthermore, a new 12-kilometer cycling path connecting Bytča and Považská Bystrica has been completed, funded by the Interreg SK-CZ program.

Cross-border cooperation is also evident in the planned reconstruction of the bridge connecting Starý Bohumín (CZ) and Chałupki (PL), a joint project between Czech and Polish authorities to address the deteriorating condition of the structure.
