Mariánské Lázně holds farewell for writer Vladimír Páral

The public and family of Czech writer Vladimír Páral are gathering in Mariánské Lázně to bid him farewell. Páral passed away on August 9, 2026, in a hospital in Cheb, one day before his 94th birthday.

A trained chemical engineer, Páral began writing in the 1960s and became one of the most widely read and respected authors of his era. His notable works include 'Milenci a vrazi' and 'Mladý muž a bílá velryba,' many of which were adapted for film or theater. His writing style was characterized by a dry description of intense emotions.

Páral had lived between Mariánské Lázně and Prague since 1995, becoming an active member of the local cultural community. He was also a patron of the Mariánské Lázně Writers' Path.
