Mariánské Lázně unveils unique crystal glass Virgin Mary column

A unique Virgin Mary thanksgiving column has been completed and blessed in Mariánské Lázně. The monument features a 170-centimeter-tall statue of the Virgin Mary crafted from clear crystal glass.

The project was spearheaded by the Mariánský association, which overcame initial bureaucratic resistance and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding for the monument was provided by donations from citizens and supporters across the Czech Republic and internationally, including a donor from Texas, USA.

The sculpture was created by a team of artists and craftsmen, including academic sculptor Petr Váňa, artist and glassmaker Jiří Liška, and glassworks master Zdeňek Lhotský. The column is situated at a symbolic location between the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the Mariánský spring.
