Mario Ballinas Ramos, former PRI deputy, assassinated in Chiapas
Mario Ballinas Ramos, a former local deputy and former leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) in Teopisca, Chiapas, was shot and killed in his home on Thursday morning.
Ballinas Ramos was also a long-time educator, having served as the director of Technical Secondary School number 40 for 20 years before retiring in February. Local residents noted that he had reportedly been preparing to seek a political candidacy following his retirement in a region where organized crime groups are active.
The State Attorney General's Office reported that one person has been detained in connection with the incident.
