Healthcare leadership changes and supply shortages in Mexico and Honduras

In Mexico, the IMSS-Bienestar institution has distanced itself from statements made by Roberto Ramos Alor, the state coordinator in Veracruz, after a video surfaced showing him confronting medical residents. The residents were protesting a chronic shortage of surgical supplies, medications, and equipment. During the meeting, Ramos Alor reportedly told the residents, “If you don't want to operate, then don't operate,” while suggesting their academic evaluations could be affected. Following the backlash, Ramos Alor issued a public apology, stating his words were inappropriate and did not reflect the respect required within the health system. IMSS-Bienestar announced it is taking corrective measures and working with state authorities to reinforce the delivery of medical materials.

In Honduras, the Secretary of Health confirmed the removal of Dr. Juan Carlos Argueta from his position as director of the Hospital Mario Catarino Rivas. The decision comes shortly after Argueta had appeared before the National Congress to request increased budgetary support to address high patient demand, shortages of specialists, and equipment needs. The specific reasons for his dismissal have not yet been officially disclosed by health authorities.
