Mario Conde claims role in Chiquito de la Calzada's rise
In the Movistar Plus documentary ‘El otro Chiquito’, former banker Mario Conde claims to have been the key figure behind the rise of the famous Spanish comedian Chiquito de la Calzada. Conde asserts that he acted as the comedian's benefactor, negotiating improved contract terms and facilitating his placement on the television network Antena 3.
These claims regarding the comedian's career emergence coincide with the period of Conde's financial downfall. Following a massive deficit of 3,600 million euros, the former president of Banesto was sanctioned by the Bank of Spain in December 1993. The comedian's debut on the program ‘Genio y figura’ occurred in July 1994.
