Mario Giro launches peace essay “Pace in tempo di guerra” in Rome
On 20 July 2026, the Società Dante Alighieri hosted the presentation of Mario Giro’s new essay *Pace in tempo di guerra* at Palazzo Firenze in Rome. The event featured the author, Società president Andrea Riccardi, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, journalist Anna Pirase, and Limes director Lucio Caracciolo, with Società secretary‑general Alessandro Masi moderating. Giro, a former deputy foreign minister and mediator for the Community of Sant’Egidio, argued that war is inherently destructive and that peace erodes gradually before open conflict, urging renewed focus on negotiation, disarmament and political responsibility.
The launch was streamed live and attendance was limited, reflecting the Society’s aim to foster public debate on the escalating global conflicts, from Ukraine to broader international tensions.
