Mario Graziosi, the ‘peasant poet’, remembered one year after death

The community of Colmurano is marking the one-year anniversary of the passing of Mario Graziosi, a man widely known as the ‘poeta contadino’ (peasant poet). Graziosi, who died at the age of 78, was celebrated for his writings on rural life, traditional customs, and the deep connection between humanity and the elements of earth, air, fire, and water.

His work often reflected a sense of melancholy regarding how modern society was changing people. He wrote about a past characterized by hardship, poverty, and great sacrifice, yet one that possessed profound dignity. Born in 1948 in Loro Piceno, Graziosi’s personal history was rooted in the struggles of rural existence, which informed his storytelling and his observations on the emptiness of modern expectations.
