Mario Lopez and Tiffani Thiessen discuss low residuals from 'Saved by the Bell
Former 'Saved by the Bell' stars Mario Lopez and Tiffani Thiessen have revealed that the residual payments they receive from the 1980s and 90s sitcom are extremely low. Lopez noted that the checks are sometimes so small they do not even cover the cost of postage.
Thiessen described the situation as being almost "negative," stating that it can cost more to print the check than the value of the payment itself. The actors attributed their lack of significant earnings to the fact that the show was originally a Saturday morning series rather than a primetime production, which resulted in less lucrative contracts and limited negotiating power for the cast.
Despite the low residuals, Lopez expressed gratitude for the role, stating that the show provided many of the professional opportunities he has enjoyed since its original run between 1989 and 1993.
