Mario Mendoza Hospital reports weekly child sexual abuse cases

The Mario Mendoza Psychiatric Hospital is treating at least two children per week for psychological disorders resulting from sexual abuse committed within their own homes, according to hospital director Montserrat Arita. These minors are typically referred by the Public Ministry's Forensic Medicine department following formal complaints filed by parents or guardians.

Arita expressed deep concern regarding these incidents, noting that the abuse occurs in environments where children should be most secure. She emphasized that society must not normalize such violence, stating, “Childhood is not the future of Honduras, it is the present of Honduras.”

Additionally, Arita addressed a recent incident in El Paraíso involving two content creators who filmed themselves shaving a minor's head and giving him 500 lempiras. One of the individuals involved, Urías Jabin Lobo, has been placed under judicial detention following a hearing.
