Mario Vušković to rejoin HSV training following doping suspension

Croatian defender Mario Vušković is set to rejoin HSV training sessions on Tuesday, September 15. This marks a significant step toward his full return to competitive football, following a four-year suspension due to a doping violation in 2022. While his official ban does not expire until November 15, the club is allowing him to begin team training two months early.

HSV coach Merlin Polzin noted that Vušković is “burning with desire” to return and appears to be in very good physical condition after training privately. Due to high public and fan interest, his first training session will take place at the Volksparkstadion rather than on auxiliary pitches.

Throughout the legal process, HSV has maintained support for the 24-year-old, expressing doubts regarding the fairness of the original accusations. The club has already offered Vušković a new contract to begin once his suspension concludes.
