Marion Hedges returns to New York City after shopping cart attack

Marion Hedges, a philanthropist who survived a high-profile assault in 2011, is returning to New York City. Fifteen years ago, Hedges was struck on the head by a heavy shopping cart thrown from a 79-foot walkway in East Harlem by two teenagers.

The attack resulted in permanent brain damage, broken ribs, and a broken collarbone, requiring Hedges to undergo years of cognitive therapy. After living in Connecticut and the Hamptons, the 62-year-old is moving back to her old neighborhood to focus on improving the lives of at-risk youth. She intends to volunteer at a community center in the South Bronx this Halloween.
