The Pitt leads 2026 Emmy nominations as Mariska Hargitay to host ceremony

The Television Academy announced the nominees for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on July 8, 2026. The awards will be presented on September 14, 2026 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on NBC and streamed on Peacock. Actress Mariska Hargitay will host, becoming the first woman to solo‑anchor the gala since Jane Lynch in 2011.

HBO Max tops the overall nomination count with 122 nods, followed by Netflix (111) and Apple TV+ (87). The medical drama The Pitt leads all shows with 25 nominations, while the comedy Hacks records a historic 24 nominations, the most ever for a single comedy season. Apple TV+ has strong showings with Pluribus (18 nominations) and Widow’s Bay (19 nominations). Other highlighted nominees include Zendaya for Euphoria, Rhea Seehorn for Pluribus, Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary, and Jean Smart, who could tie the record for most Emmy wins by a comedy actress.

The Academy also introduced rule changes: merging several variety categories, creating a new Legacy Award, and emphasizing an AI‑use policy for submitted content.
