Marissa Mayer faces criticism for using AI to describe daughter

Former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has drawn significant online criticism after admitting to using an AI tool to generate a description of her daughter for a school assignment. Mayer told The New York Times that she felt overwhelmed by the request from her daughter’s teacher to provide three bullet points highlighting the child's special qualities.

Using Dazzle, an AI assistant from her startup, Mayer received the descriptors “empathetic, creative and an animal lover,” which she described as “perfect.” The admission has sparked backlash on social media platforms like X and Reddit, with users criticizing the reliance on technology for personal familial tasks.

Mayer, 51, is currently launching Dazzle, a consumer AI startup aimed at female users. The application analyzes a user’s phone camera roll to provide personal recommendations and answer queries. While Mayer defended her use of the tool, critics have questioned the implications of using AI to navigate basic human connections and personal reflections.
