Marissa Roy leads John McKinney in Los Angeles City Attorney poll
A new poll from the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies shows Marissa Roy leading John McKinney in the race for Los Angeles City Attorney. Roy, a deputy state attorney general endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), holds 20% support, while veteran prosecutor McKinney holds 10%.
Despite the lead, the contest remains highly uncertain, with 70% of the 2,150 likely voters surveyed reporting they are undecided. The candidates are running to replace Hydee Feldstein Soto, who was eliminated in the June primary.
The Los Angeles City Attorney’s office manages a nearly $200 million budget, prosecutes approximately 120,000 misdemeanor violations annually, and represents City Hall in legal matters. McKinney has criticized Roy’s platform, suggesting her policies on crime and homelessness are extreme, while Roy’s background includes work in the California Department of Justice’s consumer protection division.
