Maritime ammonia fuel sector sees tech funding and supply agreements
The maritime industry is advancing its transition toward low-emission fuels through new technological developments and supply chain agreements.
H2SITE has secured €3.4 million in funding from Enova, which manages the Norwegian government’s Climate and Energy Fund. This investment supports the HydraNord Power project, which aims to develop commercial-scale onboard ammonia-to-power systems. The technology utilizes a unique membrane reactor to convert ammonia into high-purity hydrogen directly on vessels, producing one tonne of hydrogen daily to supply fuel cells delivering 700 kW of net electrical power. The system is designed for both new vessel builds and retrofits.
In a separate development, Azane Fuel Solutions has signed an ammonia supply agreement with Yara Norge. This partnership aims to establish a reliable ammonia supply chain for the maritime sector. Under the agreement, Yara will provide ammonia through its production and logistics network, which Azane will then distribute to maritime fuel clients, including Equinor.
