A Greek‑managed bulk carrier, the Liberian‑flagged Minoan Pioneer operated by Modion Maritime Management, was hit by an unknown projectile—likely a drone—near the Strait of Hormuz on 4 August 2026. The strike ignited a fire in the engine room, forcing the crew to abandon ship; one seaman, identified as the third engineer, remains missing.

Separately, an Indian‑registered cargo ship was struck by a projectile off the coast of Yemen and sank. All 14 crew members were rescued by Yemeni coastguard forces. In the same period, the small Najran airport in Saudi Arabia was rendered inoperable after a Houthi‑launched drone damaged its radar, a response to alleged airspace violations.
