Maritime authorities conduct security and surveillance operations in Chile and Mexico

Maritime authorities in Chile and Mexico have conducted various security and surveillance operations. In Chile, the Maritime Authority and Puerto de Ventanas executed the ‘Protectio’ exercise to test port protection capabilities under the ISPS Code. The simulation involved responding to armed individuals on an international vessel, requiring the deployment of naval helicopters, police boats, and the Navy’s Immediate Response Group (G.R.I.) to neutralize and detain suspects.

In Mexico, the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) intensified maritime surveillance and fishery inspection along the coast of Oaxaca. Working with CONAPESCA, naval personnel inspected commercial fishing vessels in the Huatulco and Puerto Ángel bays to ensure regulatory compliance. During these operations, crews recovered two ghost nets and rescued a Kemp's ridley sea turtle that had become entangled.

Additionally, the Mexican Navy continues oceanic patrolling in the Gulf of Mexico using the ARM Tabasco 168. Based in Dos Bocas, the vessel and its crew of over 70 personnel conduct missions to monitor Mexican waters and maintain maritime security in the southeast region.
